Tips On Doing Oxygen Sensor Recycling

By Lila Berger

There are numerous sensors installed in a car which totally determines how it performs and one of these is that which determines the fuel mixture indication. Oxygen sensor recycling should be routinely done for the maintenance of efficiency of the fuel as well as to prevent malfunctioning of the engine. Use the following tips as a guide to go on the process.

These sensors are typically located in the exhaust of most automobiles and are being exposed to toxic gases as well as fuel. This kind of exposure can cause contamination of the system that impairs its ability to be effectively functional. These can also be damaged by being in contact with oil and coolants as well as excessive soot accumulation.

These devices are being used in measuring the maximum efficient ratio of the mixture between air and fuel in the engine. Any imbalance would lead to impairment or inefficiency of the engine since there might be an excess combustion process or there might be low combustion efficiency leaving a lot of unburnt fuel. That is why there should be proper and regular maintenance of the system.

It is not true that buying a new replacement is always the solution to the problem because in doing such there are a lot of expenses involved. Avoid purchasing a new one by trying to clean the object first and see if it will still be functional after. Get your goggles, face shield and fire retardant gloves and then uninstall the part from the car.

The main contaminant that could be expected is baked carbon in thick layers which would not be easily dissolve in any solutions. The thing that must be done is to light up the blow torch until it turns into the desired flame. Make sure that you are wearing the heat resistant gloves.

Then, pick up the piece with the use of tongs and expose the tip of it to the flame of the blow torch for a moment until it turns red. Its tip is made up of ceramic, has a round shape and is usually the part which has a thick coat of residue. Through this, any hardened residue would then easily break from the object.

The part may then be allowed to be removed form the flame and let it cool for another couple of seconds. Then, get a bucket of water and dip the tip of the object to allow further cooling of the things but do not hold it there longer that necessary. Dip only the tip and not the entire thing.

Spray the tip with compressed air in order to finally get rid of the soot that has built up in the the device. It there happen to be hardened soot left and is still impossible to be manually removed, you can do the whole process again. Install the device back in the vehicle and have it tested.

In doing oxygen sensor recycling, there is somehow no guarantee that there will still be proper performance of the device. Also, if do not risk hurting yourself in using the blow torch because it requires experience. If the process cannot be done personally consider using electronic cleaners and always wear proper equipment.
